Seasonal Spotlight - Delicious Shrubs And Cocktails With Prairie Organic Spirits

With the fall harvest and upcoming Thanksgiving feasts, it’s the perfect time of year for fall/winter cocktails incorporating seasonal shrubs (sweetened vinegar-based syrup). Made with respect from seed to glass, my friends over at Prairie Organic Spirits are using their fine spirits to create seasonal fall/winter cocktails made with homemade shrubs.

Prairie Organic Spirits is the #1 organic spirit right now, offering 100% certified organic vodka, cucumber-flavored organic vodka and organic gin, which are made from single vintage organic corn grown on a handful of family-owned and operated Minnesota farms. Each bottle of Prairie Organic Spirits takes three years of meticulous work and provides an elevated cocktail experience that we can all raise a glass to this holiday season.

For any seasonal fall/winter or Thanksgiving cocktails, here are a few seasonal shrubs recipes to make at home and enjoy with cocktails from Prairie Organic Spirits. Apple is one of my favorite fruits in cocktails this time of year so check out some of the recipes below. To use the shrubs in a cocktail, follow the below recipe -

Cranberry-Fig Shrub

  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup balsamic vinegar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 cups unsweetened cranberry juice
  • 10 dried Black Mission figs, coarsely chopped
  • 2 sprigs fresh rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon black peppercorns

Combine water, vinegar, and sugars and whisk or shake until mostly dissolved. Add cranberry juice, figs, rosemary and peppercorns; mix well to combine. Refrigerate for 24-48 hours and strain to remove solids before using.

Pear Shrub

  • 2 cups pears, chopped
  • ½ cup sugar (or sweetener of your choice)
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar

In large mason jar, add pears and sugar. Place lid on jar and shake. Keep in the refrigerator for 24 hours, shaking every 4 hours (when possible). After, shake and add the vinegar. Place back in refrigerator for another 24 hours, shaking every 4 hours. Strain through a fine mesh sieve and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 months.
